At Northside Animal Hospital we understand medical emergencies can occur at any moment. Our services are available after hours to address injuries, excess pain and births. What emergency medical services do you offer?

Our hospital has an on-call doctor available for after-hours emergencies. They can perform wellness checks, diagnose, and provide a treatment plan to get your pet on the road to recovery as soon as possible. We can also perform emergency surgeries to cater to pets giving birth, dealing with injuries or an obstruction in their esophagus. The appointment will start with a rapid examination and blood test to analyze the severity of the issue and how to best treat them in a quick and accurate manner. We are also able to provide Telemedicine Consultations.

What is Telemedicine?

Telemedicine is the use of technology to discuss, examine, and diagnose your pet’s condition. This method allows us to share your pet’s results, from blood tests to X-rays, without you having to come in person. We can visually examine your pet, ask you questions and determine the best course of action.

Are there any days you are not available?

Extreme weather conditions are one of the moments we may be unable to provide optimal emergency care. As you know, the Cape Breton area has its fair share of winter storms. This makes it difficult for people to drive and access our services. However, our phone line is always accessible and we will leave instructions on how to reach our veterinarians and receive emergency care despite these weather conditions. Unfortunately, we’re not available 365 days a year. We shut down for the Christmas holiday but are always ready to attend to urgent matters as soon as we resume our regular hours.
